AMBER LIST - TEST TO RELEASE

When you arrive in England, if you’re considered ‘unvaccinated’, you can end your period of self-isolation early under the Test to Release scheme provided that:

> You take a COVID-19 PCR test 5 or more days after arriving in England*

> The COVID-19 PCR test is from an approved, private laboratory**

> The COVID-19 PCR test shows a negative result for COVID-19

*check the local quarantine requirements if you’re arriving in Scotland, Northern Ireland or Wales.

**you cannot use a free of charge COVID-19 PCR test from the NHS under the Test to Release scheme, it must be from a private laboratory

When you take a COVID-19 PCR test under the Test to Release scheme you’ll be issued with an electronic certificate that certifies your test result. This certificate is emailed to you as soon as the PCR test is complete.

Only private, approved laboratories can issue compliant COVID-19 PCR tests – you cannot use a PCR test performed by the NHS or a different type of COVID-19 test (e.g. lateral flow tests are not permissible for use under the Test to Release scheme).

If your test result is negative, you may end your period of self-isolation.

If your test is positive, you will need to complete the full 10 days of self-isolation.

Under the Test to Release scheme you’ll need to take three PCR tests: one on Day 2 after your arrival, another on Day 5 and a final test on Day 8. If all three tests are negative you can end your period of self-isolation early.
